Kowtow is a Wellington, New Zealand-based label with a sustainable mission: to deliver certified organic, fair trade clothing that is ethically sourced from seed to garment. Founded in 2007 by Gosia Piatek, Kowtow is a conscious label inspired by Gosia’s interests in art, architecture, culture, craftsmanship, landscapes and her own travels. The result; design-centric minimalism and off-the-body silhouettes with a distinctive edge seen in their dresses, tops, jackets and jeans.
Kowtow’s commitment to ethical sourcing, manufacturing and production is central to the label. They believe that Fair Trade and Organic go hand-in-hand, leading the Kowtow team to develop all of their textiles exclusively for their own use. The fact that they’re designing not just silhouettes, but also the colour, texture, weight and knit of their fabrics adds a level of uniqueness to everything Kowtow produces.
This innovative approach extends even beyond its fabrics. Hardware used in the brand’s recently launched denim line is nickel-free; buttons are made from recycled hemp, ethically-sourced from Germany.
