Danish fashion designer Laerke Andersen has become known on the Danish fashion scene for her workwear and sportswear-inspired clothes, with an edge of artistry, experimentation, and fun that pervades her work. With degrees from Danish Design School and London’s Central Saint Martins as well as a PhD in Textiles from University of Borås in Sweden, Andersen spent the bulk of her career focused on fabrics. When she finally graduated from her PhD in 2013, Lærke decided to launch her own brand – an eponymous womenswear line.
The meeting of low-tech vs. high-tech expressions is the overall notion of Laerke Andersen’s take on materials, techniques and form in a broad sense. Having worked in various areas within design and with highly regarded names in fashion such as Henrik Vibskov and Louis Vuitton, Laerke Andersen is seeking to erase the boundaries between feminine and masculine, function and luxury. The combination of classically inspired silhouettes with materials retrieved from workwear and sportswear gives the clothes a sense of unpretentious luxury.
