Sebastien Kopp and Francois Ghislain Morillion are what you might call conscientious sneakerheads. The two Frenchmen founded Veja to make eco-friendly shoes that don’t look like eco-friendly shoes. Staunch proponents of action over words, the team at Veja combine “fair trade and ecology and link together economy, social initiatives and the environment. A vision that proposes cultural change.”
The brand only use sustainably harvested rubber that does zero damage to trees (It’s estimated that every rubber tapper preserves up to 1 square mile of forest—this is in stark contrast to the pollution caused by manufacturing synthetic rubber in shoes.), support fair trade sourcing and use only organic materials. Transparency is paramount to this label.
