Kat Von D is launching Von D Shoes, a collection of sustainable, vegan footwear that includes designs made from apples.
A favourite amongst daring make-up lovers, Kat Von D, known for the original liquid lipsticks and the cult-favourite liquid eyeliner, will soon be diversifying her creative output. The gothic queen has been a vegan since 2013, however it recently dawned on her that her choice of footwear was at odds with her living a full vegan lifestyle, with her shoe collection containing designs created with leather or snakeskin.
Having set out to find cruelty-free footwear that was in keeping with her style and failing, this drove the boundary-pushing artist to create Von D shoes – a line of cruelty-free, vegan, high-quality shoes that will be on every badass, rock chick’s radar. And, handmade in Florence, Italy in the same factories as Chanel and Gucci, no less.
As well as being vegan, the collection also includes sustainable options that have been produced using animal leather-like materials to mimic the non-vegan fabric, including materials made from apples, pineapples and even mushrooms.
In a recent Instagram post, Kat Von D announced that the limited release will include “platforms, flats, boots, sneakers, sandals, slip-ons, creepers, winklepickers, and even a pair of furry moon boots.” She also said there will be unisex shoes, making the line inclusive in even more ways, and that 100 per cent of proceeds from certain styles will be donated to animal shelters.
Kat Von D shoes will go on sale here on World Vegan Day – 1st November, 2019.
